The grand opening for the new Chick-fil- A is set for Thursday, Oct. 19.

But the crowd will start to gather at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, when a family-friendly overnight First 100 party pops up in the parking lot at 467 Connecticut Ave.

In the 24 hours before the grand opening, guests try to be one of the first 100 adults through the door to win a year of free meals at Chick-fil-A.

This community event is open to customers who live in specific ZIP codes surrounding the restaurant. Click here for a list of eligible ZIP codes and rules. .

The Chick-fil-A First 100 tradition goes back 14 years. Rain, snow and extreme temperatures do not deter Chick-fil-A fans who arrive with tents, chairs, TVs and computers for the 24-hour campout.

Each fan hopes to win a digital offer card loaded with a one-year supply of 52 free Chick-fil-A meals, consisting of a chicken sandwich, medium waffle potato fries and a medium beverage. The gift will be awarded to the first 100 eligible adults– ages 18 and older with identification – who are still around at 5:45 a.m. Oct. 19.

If more than 100 people are onsite when the line officially opens at 6 a.m. Oct. 18, a drawing will be held to randomly select the First 100. Those chosen will be required to camp out until the grand opening in order to secure their spot.

The new restaurant will also host a children’s book drive, accepting donations of new and gently used books on Oct. 19, to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford.

The operator of the new franchise is Archer Bullock, who first encountered Chick-fil-A as a customer at the chain’s Brookfield location.

The Norwalk Chick-fil-A restaurant features a:

  • two-story interactive indoor play area and free Wi-Fi.
  • designated pickup parking spaces and dual drive-thru ordering lanes and screens to enable customers to move quickly into a single lane for payment and pickup.
  • dining room with seating for 130 with additional outdoor patio seating.
  • newly hired staff of 110 team members.
The Norwalk location will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, with breakfast served until 10:30 a.m. Like all Chick-fil- A locations, it will be closed on Sundays.

The first Chick-fil-A restaurant in Connecticut opened in October 2014 in Brookfield and was quickly followed by locations in Danbury and Wallingford. The Norwalk location is the eighth one in Connecticut.
