WESTPORT, Conn. – Making healthy food choices when you’re on the go isn’t always easy. But starting Monday, Westport residents can turn to Embody Fitness Gourmet in Bridge Square for help.

Gillen Bryan, who opened the first Embody café in Darien five years ago, said the eatery is designed for those with a busy, active lifestyle. The menu boosts a variety of high protein smoothies, fresh juice blends, energy drinks and unique salads.

“People are extremely busy in this part county of the country, Fairfield County especially,” said Bryan, a Norwalk resident. “Sometimes, they don’t have time sit down and eat, yet they still want to eat healthy. So, they can come here and get something that’s fast and healthy.”

With a menu that focuses on lean proteins and good carbohydrates, he said the offerings are not only healthy, but also functional in that they support an active lifestyle.

“People won’t have to think too much about what to order when they come in,” Bryan said. “Everything on the menu is good for you, so you won’t have to worry about ordering the wrong thing.”

Bryan said he decided to open the second Embody location in Westport because the town is active and health-conscious. With Saugatuck Rowing Club down the road, Downunder Kayaks nearby and a yoga studio in the same plaza, he said Bridge Square was the perfect location.

“Saugatuck is such a happening area, I’m so excited to get in there and be part of it,” he said.

Located at 545 Riverside Ave. between Greenfield Cleaners and Bistro 88, Embody will open its doors Monday at 7 a.m., Bryan said. The café will be open seven days a week, likely from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Like the Darien location, customers will have the option of texting their orders to the store, Bryan said. He hopes to open a third location at the Darien YMCA by the end of the year.
