Shaughnessey Banks is owned and operated by Pamela Shaughnessey-Banks with assistance from a dedicated team of women, including Sheryl Shaughnessey, Rebecca Lautenslager and Terese Travis Horvath.

"Funeral homes have traditionally been a men's business. Even today, less than 5 percent of the nation's funeral homes are owned by women. Pam and her team bring an important perspective to the industry, providing compassionate and personalized care to Fairfield families when they need it most," said Fawcett.

Founded in 1952 by Pamela’s father, Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home has been serving the Fairfield community for more than 65 years.

"I enjoyed the opportunity to work and learn side by side with my father for many years and was uniquely positioned to apply my previous business experience and education to the funeral home business," said Shaughnessey-Banks, adding that women often bring added warmth and sensitivity to the task of helping people following the loss of a loved one.

Balaz said she was happy to continue her effort to highlight women in business in Fairfield through the Women's Economic Spotlight program that she and Fawcett initiated in 2013. Shaughnessey Banks is the second business to be recognized through the program.

Fawcett said the Women's Economic Spotlight award is an ideal way to celebrate women's contributions to both the community and the local economy.

Besides running Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, Pam Shaughnessey-Banks is the current chairwoman of the board of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and the past president of the Connecticut Funeral Director’s Association. She is also a member of various organizations where she volunteers her time.
