On Tuesday, the museum announced the former mayor and state senator has officially started in the top post at the 60-year-old Park Avenue museum.

"I've always been a big fan of the Discovery Museum," said Finch, who grew up nearby. "That plays a major role in my excitement for this opportunity to help the museum grow and thrive today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.”

Finch’s hiring follows an extensive search process, according to Tom Vos, chair of the museum’s board of directors.

"Bill's a great fit, and we’re excited to have him officially on board,” Vos said. “He has extensive experience promoting science, technology, and engineering education programs across the state. His significant relationships and fundraising experience will help secure the resources necessary to give more kids access to exciting, hands-on learning opportunities, that in turn, help prepare them in subject areas critical to obtaining tomorrow’s jobs.”

Finch, who is a climate fellow at the Rockefeller Institute of Government, was Bridgeport’s mayor from 2007 to 2015.
