The project will cost $72 million and the building will have 367,000 square feet of space. There will be an intergenerational campus and the first “household” model nursing home in the state. Assisted living will round out the senior care services offered to the community. The event was held in May.

“Jewish Senior Services is thrilled to lead the way in bringing the household model of care to Connecticut,” the organization’s president and CEO Andrew H. Banoff, said. “The residential design supports the philosophy of person-centered care and we believe this model will improve the quality of life for our residents and their families as well.”

The current Jewish Community Center will be demolished, and the new structure is set to be complete in April 2016. There will be 23 households with 326 beds – private bedrooms and bathrooms, shared kitchen, living and dining areas; 18 households with 252 beds – 14 private bedrooms and bathrooms, shared kitchen, living and dining areas; and two households with 14 private bedrooms and bathrooms for short-term rehabilitation.

Jewish Senior Services’ addition of assisted living will consist of three households – 18 assisted living one-bedroom units for individuals; and two memory care households – 14 one-bedroom memory care units for dementia and Alzheimer’s disease patients.

Other services offered by JSS are adult day programs, child care, geriatric assessment, home care, hospice and outpatient therapy. The Institute on Aging, Center for Elder Abuse Prevention and Senior Choice at Home programs are also provided.

In addition, the building will contain a 25-yard swimming pool, 5,000-square-foot fitness gym, lockers, studios, massage rooms, saunas and a café, salon, library and community spaces. These amenities are available for use by residents and their families, along with employees, volunteers and community members.
