Cars hit and kill more than one million dogs each year, so the story is familiar to many.
Yet, this one stands out because the loss inspired the little girl’s parents to start a company designed to prevent it from happening to other families. That little girl, Jennifer Hill, is now the second-generation president of the Wilton-based Canine Co., which her parents founded more than 30 years ago after searching for a solution to keeping pets safe.
In one spot, Jennifer Hill recalls her relationship with the family’s beloved Bassett hound, Lucy. In the other, Jennifer talks with her mother, Carol, about how losing Lucy was the beginning of a family journey to help other families keep their pets healthy, safe and happy.
Hill was just a teen when her parents started the business in 1983. She joined the company after graduating from college and took the leadership reins from her parents in 2014 to continue their legacy.
Today, the Canine Co. provides a variety of at-home products and services, including the Invisible Fence brand pet containment systems to keep dogs and cats safely in their yards, manners obedience training and a mobile pet spa and pet-visiting services in select markets.
The commercials will begin airing next week across Fairfield County.
