'American Master Artists Series' Coming To Pequot Library In Southport

SOUTHPORT, Conn. -- A Fairfield University professor will lead seminars on American art history, theater, and jazz as part of the "American Master Artists Series" at the Pequot Library.

The Pequot Library in Southport is open to the public and shares resources with the Fairfield Public Library, but is privately run.

The five-week series will at 7 p.m. Thursdays from Oct. 15 through Nov. 12. It's being led by professor Philip Eliasoph.

The series will take an in-depth look at American art icons John Singleton Copley, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe and Andy Warhol.

These are the goals of the program:

  • Empower people to better identify and discuss characteristics and formal elements in different media.
  • Help them evaluate art in terms of themes.
  • Teach them to analyze major artistic works in the context of democracy, creativity, ingenuity and challenges to freedom of speech.
Come early to enjoy wine, cheese and conversation with Eliasoph at 6:30 p.m.

The library is at 720 Pequot Ave., Southport.
