The five-week series will at 7 p.m. Thursdays from Oct. 15 through Nov. 12. It's being led by professor Philip Eliasoph.
The series will take an in-depth look at American art icons John Singleton Copley, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe and Andy Warhol.
These are the goals of the program:
- Empower people to better identify and discuss characteristics and formal elements in different media.
- Help them evaluate art in terms of themes.
- Teach them to analyze major artistic works in the context of democracy, creativity, ingenuity and challenges to freedom of speech.
The library is at 720 Pequot Ave., Southport.
