“There’s a diverse array of restaurants in terms of the cuisine as well as the type of restaurant — anything from pub fare to casual family friendly dining options to even high-end fine dining experiences,” Fairfield Director of Community and Economic Development Mark Barnhart told the Daily Voice on Wednesday.

Barnhart said participating restaurants include both old favorites and new restaurants -- a total of a record 42 restaurants.

Even Barnhart, who plans, organizes and runs the event each year, said he has trouble deciding which restaurants he'll visit this year.

“There are so many good options: It’s hard to pick,” Barnhart said. “I have a difficult time planning where I’m going to eat for the week.”

The restaurant week begins Sunday, Oct, 11, and runs through Saturday, Oct. 17, according to event organizers. Restaurants will feature special prix fixe lunch and dinner menus or alternative discount pricing on their existing menus, organizers said.

The promotion is popular, and Barnhart advises diners to plan accordingly. He recommends calling the restaurant before visiting as tables tend to fill up during restaurant week.

Participating restaurants and retail establishments will offer a “passport” to diners. If a diner has the passport signed or stamped by more than two merchants, he or she will have a chance to win prizes.

First Selectman Mike Tetreau said the week benefits the public and diners alike.

“Restaurant Week gives the public the opportunity to visit the many fine restaurants and retailers in our community,” Tetreau said. “This weeklong event is another way the Town can show its support for our local businesses, help our local economy and provide our residents with an enjoyable experience.”

The public can visit this website to learn more about participating restaurants and retailers, as well as events that are scheduled to take place during this special week.
