Acoustic Hosts Benefit Concert For Fairfield Worker's Wife With ALS

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Acoustic in Bridgeport will host a benefit concert to help Amy Stumbris Truman, a Stratford native who works in Norwalk who is striving to keep her life normal since she was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease.

The benefit will be Sunday, Nov. 9, from 2 to 6 p.m., at The Acoustic, 2926 Fairfield Ave. Tickets are $50.

Truman and her family will be in attendance as Todd and the Dojo All-Stars, featuring members of popular funk band Kung Fu; Chris and The Afterthoughts; and many others perform. Additional musical guests include Jen Durkin and the Business and the Bobby Paltauf Band.

In addition to music ranging from funk to rock to blues; original art will be available in a special auction, and comedian Mark Vigeant, a player at New York City’s Upright Citizen’s Brigade and family member of Truman’s, will host.

This past summer, videos of celebrities, neighbors, and groups taking the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge raised awareness and over $140 million for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis research and care.

However, for people living with ALS, like Truman, many of their needs – from daily medical assistance to devices needed to maintain quality of life – are difficult to meet.

One year ago, Truman, 39, was diagnosed with ALS. She and her husband Jeremy have two young boys, Max, 5, and Nate, 2, and they are doing everything to fight the disease.

They are pursuing medical care and clinical trials, but daily critical needs include adaptive equipment and home modifications for mobility and communication to allow her to stay involved with her sons and to continue to work with Datto of Norwalk.

A crowdfunding site has been established for donation to help support her at www.gofundme.com/TeamTrumanBeatALS

Tickets and information about the event are available at the “Team Truman Beat ALS” page for Amy on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TeamTrumanBeatALS or at the Acoustic website at www.theacoustic.rocks/shows/2014/11/9/fight-als-a-benefit-concert-for-amy-truman.

Last summer, Truman's husband, friends, and coworkers from Connect Computer in Fairfield participated in the ALS TDI Tri-State Trek. This annual event raises funds for the nonprofit ALS Therapy Development Institute. Jeremy's team completed 270 miles and was the top fundraiser. Learn more at tst.als.net/teamtruman.
