It happened on Heburn Road between 5:45-6:30 p.m., Stephanie Kane said.

"He was visiting our house and was parked on the street," she said. "When he went out about a half hour-45 minutes later, his brand new car had been hit."

The front driver's side fender and bumper were damaged, she said.

Left behind was a chunk of tail light.

Kane said her next-door neighbor "saw a greyish color SUV (looked like a Jeep) back out of the driveway across the way and hit the car."

"She yelled 'hey,' and they paused for a moment looking like they were going to do the right thing," Kane said. "She ran in to get her coat to approach them. and by the time she went back outside she saw them driving away.

"They were headed onto Allwood Road."

A police officer "said it looks to be an older model SUV to the yellow in the plastic," Kane said, adding that her friend was filing an official report on Wednesday. "Newer cars don't have the yellow because they have yellow bulbs."

It appears to be from a Jeep, possibly a 2004 Cherokee, Mike DeChristopher wrote in a Facebook post.

If you've seen a Jeep with corresponding damage, or have information that can help the investigation, please call Clifton police: (973) 470-5900.
