Classical Musician Beyer To Play Pequot Library's Summer Soirée Concert

SOUTHPORT, Conn. -- Award-winning classical musicians Alex Beyer and Friends will play the second of three Summer Soirée Concerts this July designed to benefit the Southport’s Pequot Library.

The piano soloist will perform the works of Bach, Chopin, Prokofiev, and Ravel with special guest violinist Darwin Shen at 7:30 p.m. on July 9 at the Pequot Library’s Concert Hall, 720 Pequot Ave, Southport, Conn.

Beyer is a national and international performer who has been a guest soloist for symphony orchestras in Milwaukee and Charlotte, N.C., as well as Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, and Bridgeport, Conn. He is a Renee Fischer Competition and Music Teachers National Association first prize-winner and was a finalist in the 2012 Gina Bachauer International Competition.

Shen -- a soloist, chamber musician, teacher, coach and clinician -- will join Beyer in the second half of the concert. The violinist’s career has taken him from to the stages of Carnegie Hall and Broadway, as well as numerous jazz clubs. His second album is slated for the fall of 2015 and will feature unaccompanied works of Bach, Bartok, Paganini and Ysaye.

Beyer and Friend’s third concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 20 at the Pequot Library. Alan Murchie will join Beyer to perform to perform two piano works of Mendelssohn and Rachmaninoff.

“Bring your picnic dinners beforehand and enjoy our Great Lawn and new benches,” said Pequot Library Director of Development Katy Reed in a statement.
