The event, sponsored by Fairfield Ludlowe High School, featured teams from 33 Connecticut high schools, including four girls' teams, who played shortened games.

Money raised from team entry fees, a raffle, an auction and donations will be donated to two Connecticut soldiers who were severely injured in Afghanistan and are bilateral amputees.

U.S. Army Capt. Gregory Galeazzi, of Glastonbury, and U.S. Marines Sgt. Greg Caron, of Ellington, will receive proceeds from the event, which are expected to total about $50,000, according to Mike Voucas, who founded the annual Thanksgiving weekend event in 2006.

Caron who served in Iraq from 2008-09 and Afghanistan in 2011 and attended the event, said, "It creates awareness so people can see."

Voucas said the goal is to raise money and educate the lacrosse players. "They're sixteen- to eighteen-year-old boys who don't realize what's taking place," he said. "We seek to educate them on the sacrifices being made by young men and women who are not much older than they are."
