FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The 2014 Fairfield Holocaust Commemoration will feature an educational evening of remembrance, with a keynote delivered by Shiri B. Sandler.

She is the granddaughter of a survivor who serves as the U.S. director of the Auschwitz Jewish Center, a museum and study center in Auschwitz, Poland.

The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road.

In her capacity as U.S. director of the center, Sandler runs the center’s American Service Academies Program, a unique two-week educational program in which a select group of cadets and midshipmen from the U.S. military academies travel to Poland and face the reality of genocide along with the ethical and moral questions they may face as military officers.

There will be a short presentation by Sandler, musical selections by the Fairfield County Children’s Choir and Fairfield Warde High School Ensemble, a candle-lighting ceremony and a reception.

Admission is free, contributions are welcome.
