Fairfield Kids Invited To Compete In Essay-Writing Contest

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University Bookstore will kick off National Children's Book Week with an essay contest for writers in grades 3 to 8 on May 2.

Three Westport children's authors will judge the essay contest: Tommy Greenwald, author of the "Charlie Joe Jackson" series; Michaela MacColl, author of the new "Hidden Histories" series; and Christine Pakkala, author of the "Last-But-Not-Least Lola" series. All three authors will also read from their works, discuss their styles of writing and answer questions from visitors. 

The essay theme is "Springtime in Fairfield County." Categories are:

  • boys and girls in grades 3 to 5, 250 words or less; and
  • boys and girls in grades 6-8, 500 words or less.

One winner from each category will receive a Fairfield University Bookstore gift card. 

The 96th annual National Children's Book Week runs from May 4 through May 10. The essay contest event takes place at the downtown Fairfield University Bookstore at 1499 Post Road on May 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

To enter the contest, email the essay in PDF format to FairfieldUBookstoreEvents@gmail.com by April 19 at 6 p.m.
