As night descends, Fairfield Museum docents will share haunting legends, superstitions and local folklore. Brave souls may even choose to stand on the site where townsfolk tested alleged witches in the 17th century.

“We don’t claim to prove the stories. We just to tell them and you can take away from it what you like,” said Walt Matis, a Fairfield native and the museum’s program and coordinator. “The idea is to have a good time … and to help you think about what those things are that go bump in the night.”

The Legends and Hauntings Walking Tour will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and commences at the Museum at 370 Beach Road. Attendees are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.

Early registration is encouraged, as this popular event fills quickly. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Register online at fairfieldhistory.org or call 203-259-1598. Registration is required.

In conjunction with the Oct. 25 tour, families can meet Paul Ferrante, a Fairfield native and local author of the "T.J. Jackson" mysteries. Arrive at the museum at 5 p.m. to learn about “Curse of the Fairfield Witch,” his latest book in the series. When a witch from the 1600s returns to modern-day Fairfield to avenge her conviction, local resident T.J. Jackson and his ghost-hunting team must stop her before she makes good on an ancient curse.

This historically based novel is filled with local flavor and is the fourth installment in the "T.J. Jackson" series. The author event is free to the public.
