TRUMBULL, Conn. — Step into Purgatory in "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot" opening this weekend and running to March 26 at the Blackbox Theater (former Vagabond) in Trumbull.

It's a thought-provoking, dark comedy that takes a critical look at the nature of forgiveness.

The action is set in Purgatory, which has evolved over the centuries to function as a Courtroom over which Judge Frank Littleton presides.

In a shocking move, an ambitious defense attorney, Fabiana Aziza Cunningham, has filed an appeal on behalf of one of Purgatory's most infamous residents, Judas Iscariot.

She calls historical and biblical figures as witnesses in her request for mercy on behalf of the catatonic Judas, to show his role was not one of betrayal but, fulfillment of prophecy, and as such he should move on to Paradise.

The Court has little reason to believe her, or remain impartial.

At its heart, this show is a powerful exploration of the source and meaning of forgiveness.

The play runs Friday and Saturdays, March 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 8 p.m. and Sundays, March 19 and 26 at 5 p.m.

The theater is located in the Performing Arts Center Of Connecticut, 18 Lindeman Drive, Trumbull.

Admission is $20; $15 for students and seniors at the door.
