SOUTHPORT, Conn. -- The Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestra will perform in its annual concert on Pequot Library’s Great Lawn in Southport on Saturday, May 21, from 3-5 p.m.
The Principal Orchestra, String Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble will perform in this outdoor concert.
In addition to pieces by Beethoven, Bach, and Handel, GBYO will play modern works from "Frozen" and John Williams' scores from such movies as "Star Wars" and "Harry Potter." The sounds of Mozart's "Magic Flute" will also be heard.
GBYO members come from nearly 30 communities in Fairfield and New Haven counties and are selected by competitive audition in late August/early September.
The GBYO is comprised of six distinct performing ensembles and a new Chamber Music program consisting of the following: Principal Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, String Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Chamber Music. Rehearsals are held at Tomlinson Middle School, 200 Unquowa Road, Fairfield.
The rain date will be Sunday, May 22 at 3 p.m.
The Pequot Library is at 720 Pequot Ave., Southport.
