Trueman is the first to receive the “Harlem Globetrotters Hometown Hero” honor, designed to pay tribute to active, retired or wounded members of the military.

The 'Hometown Hero' initiative will continue throughout the Globetrotters' 2015 North American tour, scheduled to last over 310 dates from December to May 2015.

“It’s an honor to be recognized,” said Trueman, who was nominated by Naval Submarine Base New London and was among hundreds of candidates. “I can recall, that as a kid, I imitated the skills and funny antics of the Globetrotters on our local basketball court a few times; so now as an adult, to have them take a serious moment, on their court, to honor my service is humbling.”

Trueman joined the Navy in 2010, and previously served on the USS Oklahoma City in Guam before being assigned to the San Juan.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. against the Washington Generals. Tickets start at $23 and are available at www.harlemglobetrotters.com, www.ticketmaster.com, the Webster Bank Arena box office, or by calling 800-745-3000.
