Play For Purpose is hosting the event, which will raise awareness and funds to help local families in need of financial assistance due to illnesses. Proceeds will also benefit local and national charities such as Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and the Fisher House of Connecticut.
Players ages 16 to 75, will play in the 72-hour game. The event is open to the public and admission is free. Opening ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. and are followed by a silent auction and cocktail reception before the first puck drops at 9 p.m. Play continues through Sunday, May 10 at 7 p.m.
Last May the group raised over $40,000 for charities. This year the goal is $100,000.
A New York Ranger 2015 team jersey signed by the entire team and a stick signed by team captain Ryan McDonagh will be auctioned.
New York Rangers alumni will visit on Saturday with an open skate, autographs and “Meet and Greet” from 1-2:30 p.m. Players scheduled to attend include Andre Dore, Dave Maloney, Gilles Villemure, Mark Janssens and Tom Laidlaw.
The NY Rangers’ Sled Dog Hockey Game against the NJ Freeze, (professional hockey for disabled players) will be held at noon on Saturday. Pet Partners Companion (service) Dogs will also be on hand at 11:30 am. The New York Ranger Road Truck will be there for the public to explore. Visit the Play For Purpose Facebook page to learn more.
