Jose Rios, 21, who lives in a Beech Street basement apartment, was arrested by Lyndhurst police and members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit on Thursday after the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency “became aware of what occurred” and notified authorities, Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

The incident allegedly occurred in March 2012, when Rios was 20, the prosecutor said. However, he said, “it was only recently disclosed to authorities.”

Rios, who is single and workers for a hamburger restaurant in Clifton, was charged with second-degree sexual assault and child endangerment.

A Nov. 26 arraignment was scheduled.
