Ramapo Police Recover Stolen Mini-Bike, Arrest Two

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police were able to recover a stolen mini-bike this week after they stopped a driver for allegedly having a suspended registration.

Ramapo police say they recovered a mini-bike that had been stolen in Clarkstown after pulling over a 27-year-old man and his 20-year-old passenger in a traffic stop Thursday.

Police said that they pulled over the unidentified 27-year-old and his 20-year-old passenger, both from Spring Valley, and charged them with fifth-degree possession of stolen property.

They also face felony charges because the vehicle identification number on the mini-bike had been defaced, police said.

One of the arresting officers recognized the passenger and remembered seeing him riding an ATV the previous week.

The mini-bike had been stolen from Clarkstown, and the ATV from Orangetown, police said.

The 20-year-old was then charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, in the Orangetown case, police said.

Police answered a total of 143 calls on Thursday, including eight medical emergencies, two fires, and 17 alarm activations.

They also investigated 15 motor vehicle accidents in the following locales: Monsey, New Square, Viola, Montebello, South Spring Valley, Kaser, Hillcrest, Chestnut Ridge and New Hempstead.

Three of those accidents involved injuries, police said.
