Edo, a 14-month-old Belgian Malinois mix, starts his training with Officer Christopher Laver at the Union County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, the department said on Facebook.

The announcement received hundreds of heartwarming comments and well-wishes from department supporters.

“Edo is just beautiful and looks like the perfect addition to our town’s law enforcement team!” one commenter wrote. “Best of luck Officer Laver and welcome Edo! Be safe and thank you for your service.”

The department’s former K-9 Officer Jada suffered a medical emergency while on duty and died in the company of her handler, Officer Laver, in late August. She had been with the department since 2016.

Hundreds of Hackettstown residents and law enforcement officials later showed their support by attending the fallen K-9’s procession and memorial service.

“Beautiful. This makes my heart smile,” read another comment. “K-9 Jada would be happy to see Ofc. Laver finished what they started. Many safe years together guys!”
