Paint Branch High School Evacuated Due To Latest Bomb Threat In Montgomery County (Updated)

The Montgomery County Department of Police reported at around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26 that the Paint Branch High School was being evacuated after the latest threat targeting a building.

It was the third time in two days that officers were called to a Montgomery County Public School to investigate threats. It also came one day after a 12-year-old was identified as the culprit who emailed at least seven other threats earlier this year.

It is unknown if the child is again involved with the latest threat after he could not be charged due to his age.

Officers from the department were still investigating the validity of the threat as of 11:45 a.m. on Thursday following the evaluation of the school.

"The shooting in Fairland on Monday night resulted in the 22nd homicide this year. Several schools have been the targets of bomb threats and a gun was recently found in an elementary and high school," Montgomery County Council member Will Jawando said in a statement. 

"Violence and threats of violence harm our physical and mental wellbeing. We must reject violence and work together to address both the root causes and immediate safety needs.

"As a parent, I urge families to talk with the young people in their lives and emphasize the serious repercussions from bringing weapons to school and engaging in violent behavior."
