ATV Duo Flees Cops After Reckless Joyride On East Farmingdale Highway, Police Say

Two men are facing charges following an alleged reckless joyride and police chase involving ATVs on a Long Island highway.

The incident began at around 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in East Farmingdale on Route 110, according to Suffolk County Police.

A driver called 911 saying that a group of ATV riders were driving recklessly on southbound Route 110 near Executive Boulevard.

When officers attempted to stop the group, they fled southbound.

They continued driving recklessly through Amityville, Copiague, and Lindenhurst before two of the vehicles finally stopped on Sunrise Highway, police said.

Officers arrested Kevin Gomez-Cruz, age 22, of Bay Shore; and Fernando Acuna-Suazo, age 19, of Copiague.

Acuna-Suazo was riding a Kawasaki dirt bike that had been stolen out of Massachusetts, police said. He was charged with the following:

  • Reckless driving
  • Unlawful fleeing a police officer
  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Criminal possession of stolen property

Gomez-Cruz was riding a Yamaha ATV. He was charged with reckless driving and unlawful fleeing a police officer.

Both men were also issued multiple summonses for traffic violations.
