John Green, of Westport, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 5, and charged with burglary and criminal mischief for allegedly breaking into the Charles Street building, said Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso.

According to Prezioso, the property owner told police that Green, who he did not know, has allegedly been entering the building overnight and that he was urinating on the carpets inside.

In response to the complaints, officers stopped to check on the building around 1:37 a.m., Wednesday and found Green inside the building.  The officer also smelled the odor of fresh urine, Prezioso said.

A computer check of Green showed that he was the subject of a court-issued warrant for failure to appear. The warrant was issued in connection with his failure to appear in court for a prior arrest for criminal trespass in Westport.

Green was charged and is being held on a total bond of $1,500 which he was unable to post.
