SOUTHPORT, Conn. – The Alex Beyer and Friends: Summer Soirée Series will have its season finale at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.

Pianists Beyer and Alan Murchie will perform works of Mendelssohn and Rachmaninoff for two pianos.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

All of the profits benefit the Pequot Library’s free music concerts for children.

Beyer has been a guest soloist with the Milwaukee, Charlotte, Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury and Bridgeport symphony orchestras, among others. In 2012, he was a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts.

Beyer has performed in and directed many benefit concerts for the Pequot Library, Project Learn, Music for Youth, Mercy Learning Center and KEYS.

Murchie is a versatile musician whose performance schedule includes regular appearances as a solo pianist, organist, conductor, chamber musician and lecturer. Recent concert performances include piano and organ concerti with The Knights, a live recital on WGBH Boston with Boston Symphony Orchestra cellist Owen Young, and appearances at summer festivals, including Maverick Concerts in Woodstock, N.Y.

As a solo pianist, Murchie has toured Morocco and performed in Vienna, Berlin, Edinburgh, Venice and Florence. His musical career began at 10 when he joined the renowned Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys.
