On Saturday, May 7 from 4-7 p.m. the Great Lawn and the Auditorium of Pequot Library will offer a Derby watch party as a fundraiser for the library.

Residents planning to attend to watch the 142nd Kentucky Derby are encouraged to wear big hats and enjoy traditional Southern fare as if they were at the big race.

All proceeds will help support the Pequot Library’s more than 750 annual programs and library services, which serve about 100,000 yearly visitors.

The fundraiser is meant to follow in the Derby's history as a fundraiser, when 142 years ago, the race leading up to what is now the Run for the Roses was a fundraiser for the purpose of raising money to build quality racing facilities.

The Pequot Library hopes the energy and enthusiasm from the event will help the library raise money to help bring literature, music, art, science and the humanities to all of Fairfield.

The Pequot Library's Derby Co-Chairs are Meagan and Dan Johnson, Jane and Graham Michener and Bobbie Sue and Tim Russell.

Residents in attendance will have the option to bring their own items for a pre-race tailgate on the Great Lawn or enjoy those provided by the library.

A ticket to the event includes access to the open bar, as well as the Kentucky fare. Individual tickets are priced at $60. Tailgate tickets ($300) include four individual tickets and a special 3 p.m. entrance.
