Talk About Quilts At Fairfield Public Library

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Quilting may date back as far as ancient Egypt, but it continues to be popular with crafters and collectors.

That's why the Fairfield Woods Branch Library, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road, will be Talking About Quilts with Susan J. Jerome at 2 p.m., Saturday.

Jerome is the Collection Manager at the University of Rhode Island Historic Textile and Costume Collection.

To many, pieces of fabric can have the power to evoke an emotional response. Using images of antique quilts and quilted objects, Jerome will discuss some of the definitions and ideas surrounding the word “quilt”. In addition, attendees will learn about textile history and how technological changes influenced the projection of quilts during the 19th century and how to properly store textile heirlooms for future generations. Visitors are also encouraged to bring one quilt or quilted object along to enhance the discussion.
