“We’re interested in hearing from companies, organizations, clubs and teams who put a premium on community outreach,” said Jim Keenan, event chairman.

The event benefits Community Plates, a Norwalk-based nonprofit with the purpose of eliminating hunger in the United States. The event runs from noon to 4 p.m.

“We look for groups of four or more volunteers as opposed to individuals because it’s easier to orchestrate,” said Keenan. “Culinary students from Norwalk Community College, a local day care or a local high school lacrosse team looking to build team chemistry off the field are good examples of the kinds of groups we’re looking for. Our event benefits them as much as their help benefits the event."

Volunteers are given the official Chowdafest cap and get to experience the event during their breaks, including voting on the best chowder, soup and bisque. Additionally, volunteers get free preferred parking and discounts on merchandise.

Volunteers are needed by 9 a.m. and the event ends at 4 p.m. Shifts can be worked out depending on the group and need. Those interested in volunteering must represent a group of volunteers (four or more) and need to contact Jim Keenan at Chowdafest@gmail.com by Saturday at noon. Reach out early before the volunteer slots are all full. Call Keenan at 203-216-8452 for more information.

Chowdafest, presented by Stop & Shop, benefits Community Plates in an ongoing effort to eliminate hunger. General admission for the event is $15 for adults at the door (or $10 when purchased online) $5 for kids (6 to 12 years old). More information about the event is online, Facebook or through Keenan at chowdafest@gmail.com.
