Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport is bringing back the old-fashioned “drive-in” movie with a free showing of the Academy Award-winning, family classic “E.T. – The Extra Terrestrial” under the stars on Saturday night, August 25th, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Residents of Fairfield, Southport and the surrounding area are welcome to attend the drive-in, which will be held in Trinity’s spacious parking lot on the corner of Pequot Avenue and Center Street. No affiliation with the Church is required.
Timed at the end of the summer and just before school starts, this free event is the first of its kind in the surrounding area. The movie, which will appear on a 15' x 20' screen, is Steven Spielberg’s classic American science fiction film that was a blockbuster, surpassing Star Wars to become the highest-grossing film of all time, a record it held for ten years. Critics acclaimed it as a timeless story of friendship. The film appeals to children of all ages.
“We are delighted to host this wonderful movie for all our friends and neighbors,” said The Rev. Nicholas T. Porter, Rector of Trinity Church. “We see this event as a rare opportunity for community togetherness and entertainment on a nice evening outdoors, before the Summer fades. Come one, come all.”
Trinity is partnering together with community businesses to make the evening a success -- from the food to the drinks -- to even the film. Attendees should bring the pick-up, the station-wagon, minivan, or car, along with lawn chairs and the whole family for some old-fashioned fun.
The summer, drive-in movie is the first in a series of community events sponsored by Trinity called, “Southport Sound and Vision.” Additional events now being planned include a fall Champagne & Wine Tasting as well as a Community Silent Auction later in the year.
