What To Do In Fairfield This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – An art show, a harvest festival and the opening of hockey season come to the Fairfield area this weekend. Here’s a collection of events happening in and around Fairfield the next few days. Visit our events listings for more to do.

Friday, Oct. 12

Art Show Gala and Preview: 6:30-10:30 p.m. The Pequot Library begins its weekend art show and sale with a cocktail party featuring a silent and live auction followed by dance music. Tickets range from $75 to $250 at the library’s website. 720 Pequot Ave.

New Duke Concert: 7 p.m. A group of Fairfield University jazz professors form a group to perform new takes on the work of Duke Ellington at the Quick Center for the Arts. Another performance is scheduled for 9 p.m., followed by a discussion with the performers. Tickets are $30 at the theater box office. 1073 N. Benson Road

Early Elton Concert: 7:30 p.m. Early Elton, a tribute band to Elton John focusing on his work in the 1970s, plays at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne. Tickets are $29 at the door or $25 in advance at the theater’s website. 70 Sanford St.

Saturday, Oct. 13

Great Beginnings Harvest Festival: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Great Beginnings Montessori School hosts a fall festival on Fairfield’s Town Hall Green, at the intersection of Old Post and Beach Roads. The event will feature music, games, crafts, food and more. Admission is free.

Assumption Scarecrow Festival: Noon to 3 p.m. Assumption School hosts a day dedicated to scarecrows, featuring booths to make your own, plus food, movies, a book sale and other activities. Admission is free. 605 Stratfield Road.

Pop Art Collage Workshop: 1 p.m. Artist Michael Albert leads a workshop for kids on his “cerealism” style, which uses pieces of cereal boxes to create collages. The class is free, but the library asks families register in advance at (203) 259-0346, ext. 18. 720 Pequot Ave.

Bridgeport Sound Tigers vs. Providence Bruins: 7 p.m. The Sound Tigers play their first home game of the 2012-2013 season at the Webster Bank Arena. Tickets range from $15 to $47 (plus fees) at the team's website or at the arena box office, 600 Main St., Bridgeport

Inti-Illimanti Concert: 7:15 p.m. Chilean folk band Inti-Illimanti performs at the Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University. Tickets range from $25-40 at the theater's box office. 1073 N. Benson Road

Fishhead Stew Concert: 7:30 p.m. Funk band Fishhead Stew plays at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne. Tickets are $47 at the door or $42 in advance at the theater’s website. 70 Sanford St.

Sunday, Oct. 14

Fairfield Restaurant Week Begins: Fairfield restaurants and businesses will have special menus, discounts and activities for Fairfield’s first Restaurant Week, which begins Sunday. For more information, visit the event's website.

Fairfield Warde Flea Market: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fairfield Warde High School’s PTA has its last flea market of the season in the school’s parking lot. Vendors will sell clothing, jewelry, crafts, media and more. 755 Melville Ave.

The Met in HD: L’Elisir d’Amore: 1 p.m. The Quick Center for the Arts shows the Metropolitan Opera’s production of “L’Elisir d’Amore” on its high-definition screen. An encore screening is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $10-$25 at the theater's box office. 1073 N. Benson Road

Alan Doyle Concert: 7:30 p.m. Alan Doyle, one of the members of Celtic folk band Great Big Sea, performs a solo show at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne. Tickets are $29 at the door or $25 in advance at the theater’s website. 70 Sanford St.
