What To Do In Fairfield This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Two American Idol winners visit Fairfield this weekend, along with Halloween’s usual ghouls and ghosts. Here’s a collection of events happening in and around Fairfield the next few days. Visit our events listings for more to do.

Friday, Oct. 26

The Enchanted Castle: 4-7 p.m. The Burr Homestead hosts a Halloween event featuring seven “storybook” rooms with costumed actors performing classic stories. The program continues  from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is a $5 donation to Bridgeport Hospital’s Ahlbin Center for Rehabilitation Medicine. 739 Old Post Road

Halloween Extravaganza: 4 p.m. The Fairfield Public Library hosts a Halloween party for elementary school kids. Families are invited to come in costume for games, prizes and more. Admission is free. 1080 Old Post Road

Howl-O-Ween: 6:30-10 p.m. Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is ready for Halloween with hay rides, spooky exhibits and a magic show. Admission is $10 at the gate. The event continues from 6:30-10 p.m. Saturday. 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport

Kris Allen Concert: 8 p.m. The winner of the eighth season of “American Idol” performs at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne. Tickets are $29 at the door or $25 in advance at the theater’s website. 70 Sanford St.

Saturday, Oct. 27

The Met in HD: Otello: 1 p.m. Fairfield University’s Quick Center for the Arts broadcasts the Metropolitan Opera’s staging of Verdi’s “Otello” on its high-definition screen. An encore airing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $25 for the public, $20 for seniors and $10 for students and children at the theater box office. 1073 N. Benson Road

Legends and Hauntings: 6-8 p.m. Lecturers from the Fairfield Museum and History Center lead walks around Fairfield’s Town Hall Green, sharing true stories and legends from town history. Admission is $8 per person. Another tour begins at 6 p.m. Sunday. 370 Beach Road

The Leads of Les Mis: 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Cast members from Broadway productions of “Les Miserables” sing the musical’s tunes in two shows at Sacred Heart University’s Edgerton Center for the Arts. Tickets are $30 at the theater box office. 5151 Park Ave.

Lee DeWyze Concert: 7:45 p.m. The winner of the ninth season of “American Idol” performs at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne. Tickets are $26 at the door or $22 in advance at the theater’s website. 70 Sanford St.

Capitol Steps Concert: 8 p.m. Capitol Steps, a musical political satire group, performs at the Klein Memorial Auditorium. Tickets range from $25 to $45 at the door or in advance at the Fairfield Theatre Company website. 910 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport

Sunday, Oct. 28

Boo at the Zoo: Noon to 3 p.m. Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo continues its fall programs with hay rides, a scarecrow competition and other Halloween activities. Kids less than age 12 wearing a costume get in free. Otherwise admission is $12 for adults and $10 for kids less than 12. 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport

Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players: 1 p.m. The children’s band performs at the Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University. Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for kids at the theater box office. 1073 N. Benson Road

Chinese Cultural Program: 2 p.m. The Fairfield Public Library offers a presentation on Chinese culture, featuring audio, video and a traditional dance demonstration. The class is free. 1080 Old Post Road

Meet Author Julie Salamon: 4 p.m. The author of “Wendy and the Lost Boys: The Uncommon Life of Wendy Wasserstein” talks about her work at the Pequot Library. Admission is free. 720 Pequot Ave.
