FAIRFIELD, Conn. – This week is a musical one for the Fairfield area, with both indoor and outdoor concerts filling up the schedule. Here’s a collection of some of the events happening in and around Fairfield over the next four days.
Monday, Aug. 6
Watch the Olympics: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Fairfield Public Library shows live coverage of the London Olympics on its big screen. There is no fee to drop in and watch all day. The screening continues all week during normal library hours. 1080 Old Post Road
Chris Rowlands Live: 11 a.m. Children’s entertainer Chris Rowlands brings his mix of education, music and comedy to Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. The concert is free with zoo admission, which costs $12 for adults and $10 for kids and senior citizens. Repeat shows start each day at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport
Rainforest Reptiles Show: 12:30 p.m. Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo offers an educational program on snakes, alligators and other reptiles. The presentation is free with zoo admission, which costs $12 for adults and $10 for kids and senior citizens. Tuesday, Aug. 7
Preschool Power Pals: 10 a.m. The Discovery Museum hosts a program for parents and caretakers of preschool children to gather and meet for open playtime in the museum’s Preschool Power exhibit. The activity is free with museum admission, which costs $9.50 for adults, $8 for kids ages 3 to 17, and free for kids ages 2 and under. 4450 Park Ave., Bridgeport.
Teen and Tween Movie: "Footloose:" 3:45 p.m. The Pequot Library continues its weekly teen movie screenings with the 2011 remake of “Footloose.” Admission is free, but registration is recommended by calling 259-0346, Ext. 19, or emailing pysarchyk@pequotlibrary.org. 720 Pequot Ave.
Fairfield Green Drinks: 6 to 8 p.m. Local residents gather for a monthly discussion on environmental issues. There is no charge for admission. The Shack Bar and Grill, 2070 Post Road.
B-52s Concert: 8 p.m. Eighties band the B-52s perform at the Klein Memorial Auditorium. Tickets range from $65 to $90 at the door or $60 to $85 in advance at the online box office. 910 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport.
Wednesday, Aug. 8
Peanut Butter Jam Session: 12:30 p.m. Children’s entertainer Marcia Louis plays. There is no charge for admission, and families are invited to bring a picnic lunch. Sherman Green, at Post Road and Reef Road.
Rich Bobinski Orchestra Concert: 7 p.m. Polka band the Rich Bobinski Orchestra performs. The concert is free as part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series. Sherman Green, at Post Road and Reef Road.
Collie Buddz with New Kingston: 7:30 p.m. Reggae artist Collie Buddz performs with new Kingston at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne. Tickets are $50 at the door or $45 in advance at the online box office. 70 Sanford St.
Thursday, Aug. 9
Drop Everything and Read Marathon: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Fairfield Woods Branch Library closes the summer reading season with an all-day reading event. Children are invited to read at the library’s kids’ section. For every 50 pages an entrant reads, a book will be added to the library in her or his honor. There is no charge to enter. 1147 Fairfield Woods Road.
Kids’ Talent Show: 3:30 p.m. Kids of all ages are invited to show off their talents at the Fairfield Public Library. There is no cost to enter. Performers must arrive for a dress rehearsal at 2:30 p.m. 1080 Old Post Road
Sand Jam and Family Movie Night: 6:30 p.m. The Parks and Recreation Department’s teen dance and movie series finishes its season. Teens are invited to a free dance hosted by DJ Marvin Parsons at 6:30 p.m. A free screening of “The Muppets” will begin after dark, at about 8:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission, but a beach sticker or the $15 fee is required for parking. Big Beat Concert: 7 p.m. Oldies band Big Beat performs for free as part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series. Sherman Green at Post Road and Reef Road.
