FAIRFIELD, Conn. — This week looks to be a very educational one for Fairfield, with lectures on animals and health concerns joining the usual concerts on the weekly calendar. Here’s a collection of the events happening in and around Fairfield over the next four days.
Monday, Aug. 13
Rainforest Reptiles Show: 12:30 p.m. Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo offers an educational program on snakes, alligators and other reptiles. The presentation is free with zoo admission, which costs $12 for adults and $10 for kids and senior citizens. Repeat shows are at 12:30 p.m. each day, with an additional show at 10 a.m. Thursday. 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport.
Tuesday, Aug. 14
Primary Elections: 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Registered Democrats and Republicans vote for their parties’ candidates for state and federal office. Find your polling place at the Registrars of Voters’ website.
Preschool Power Pals: 10 a.m. The Discovery Museum hosts a program for parents and caretakers of preschool children to gather and meet for open playtime in the museum’s Preschool Power exhibit. The activity is free with museum admission, which is $9.50 for adults, $8 for kids ages 3-17 and free for kids ages 2 and under. 4450 Park Ave., Bridgeport.
Town Plan and Zoning Commission Meeting: 7:30 p.m. Fairfield’s Zoning Board holds its regular meeting in the cafeteria of McKinley Elementary School. The agenda is available here. 60 Thompson St.
Wednesday, Aug. 15
Informational Forum on Osborn Hill School: 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. State and local officials gather to answer parents’ concerns about recent findings of PCBs at Osborn Hill School. The afternoon and evening sessions are identical. The forum will be held in the gym of Roger Ludlowe Middle School, 689 Unquowa Road.
Alumni Swing Concert: 7 p.m. Local oldies band Alumni Swing performs on the Sherman Green, at the intersection of Post Road and Reef Road. The show is free as part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series.
Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars Concert: 7:30 p.m. Louisiana-based Cajun blues-rock band Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars performs at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne. Tickets are $80 at the door or $75 in advance through the theater's website.
Crocodiles in Paradise: 8 p.m. Animal expert Peter Braizitis talks about his life studying and tracking crocodiles around the world. A $5 donation is suggested. Beardsley Zoo, 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport.
Thursday, Aug. 16
Job Search Boot Camp: 9:15 a.m. Career counselor Ann Wright hosts a drop-in informational program for job-seekers at the Fairfield Public Library. She will stay on after the session for one-on-one counseling. There is no charge for the seminar, and registration is not required. 1080 Old Post Road.
Beat the Heat with Water Games: 4 p.m. The Pequot Library in Southport hosts a variety of water-themed games for kids on its Great Lawn. The event is free. 720 Pequot Ave.
Uptown Jazz Concert: 7 p.m. Uptown Jazz, a local jazz band, performs on the Sherman Green, at the intersection of Post Road and Reef Road. The show is free as part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series.
