FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Olympic celebrations, a library book sale and the opening of a new art exhibit join the usual lineup of concerts and shows on Fairfield’s calendar this weekend. Here’s a collection of some of the events happening in and around town over the next three days.
Friday, July 27
Pequot Library Book Sale: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Southport’s Pequot Library holds its annual Summer Book Sale, featuring used books, CDs, DVDs and more. The sale starts Friday, but prices get progressively lower as the sale continues through Tuesday. The sale is also open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. 720 Pequot Ave.
Watch the Olympics: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Fairfield Public Library will have a television feed of the 2012 London Olympics playing on its big screen throughout the day. Residents are invited to drop in to the Rotary Room of the Main Library anytime to watch for free. The screening continues Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. 1080 Old Post Road.
Sand Jam Dance and Family Movie Night: 6:30 p.m. The Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department hosts a teen dance followed by a screening of “Cars 2,” as part of its Family Movie Night Series. The dance begins at 6:30 p.m., and the movie begins after sunset. Both events are free and are at Jennings Beach.
13: The Musical: 8 p.m. The Fairfield Teen Theatre’s Magic Box troupe performs its end-of-session show, “13.” The show opens Friday at Fairfield Ludlowe High School . Tickets are $13 at the door. There will also be performances Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. 785 Unquowa Road.
Kicking Daisies Concert: 7:30 p.m. Teen rock band Kicking Daisies performs at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne, 70 Sanford St. Tickets are $26 at the door or $22 in advance through the theater box office.
Saturday, July 28
Library Olympics: 11 a.m. The Fairfield Woods Branch Library celebrates the start of the 2012 Olympics with a day of athletic competition of its own. Kids in grades K through 5 are invited to compete in various events throughout the day, in the library’s parking lot and on the lawn of neighboring Fairfield Woods Middle School. There is no entry fee. 1147 Fairfield Woods Road.
Chris Rowlands Live: 11 a.m. Children’s entertainer Chris Rowlands brings his blend of education, comedy and music to the Beardsley Zoo. The show is free with zoo admission, which is $12 for adults and $10 for kids and seniors. He will also do shows at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. He will also perform at the same times on Friday and Sunday. 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport.
War of 1812 at Sea: Marine Paintings from the Jinishian Collection: Noon to 4 p.m. The Fairfield Museum and History Center opens a new exhibit featuring marine-themed art inspired by the War of 1812. Saturday marks the first day the works will be on display. Museum admission is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and students. 370 Beach Road.
Pure Prairie League Concert: 8 p.m. Country and rock band Pure Prairie League performs at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne, 70 Sanford St. Tickets are $65 at the door or $60 in advance through the theater box office.
Sunday, July 29
Goldrush Concert: 7 p.m. Country band Goldrush performs on Sherman Green, at the intersection of Post Road and Reef Road. The concert is free to all as part of the Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series.
Tom Rush Concert: 7:45 p.m. Folk singer-songwriter Tom Rush performs at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne, 70 Sanford St. Tickets are $50 at the door or $45 in advance through the theater box office.
