What's Happening In Fairfield This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Concerts, historical strolls and a charity tag sale fill up Fairfield’s calendar this weekend. Here’s a collection of events happening in and around Fairfield the next few days. Visit our events listings for more to do.

Friday, Aug. 24

Rainforest Reptiles Show: 10 a.m. Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo offers an educational program on snakes, alligators and other reptiles. The presentation is free with zoo admission, which costs $12 for adults and $10 for kids and senior citizens. Repeat shows are at 12:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport.

Yesteryear Concert: 6:30 p.m. Oldies doo-wop band Yesteryear performs on the Sherman Green, at the intersection of Post Road and Reef Road. The show is free as part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series.

Leon Redbone Concert: 7:30 p.m. Blues guitarist and singer Leon Redbone plays at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne. Tickets are $47 at the door or $42 in advance at the theater’s website. 70 Sanford St.

Blues Traveler Concert: 8 p.m. Classic rock band Blues Traveler plays at the Klein Memorial Auditorium in Bridgeport. Tickets range from $42-$67 at the door or $37-$62 in advance at the theater's website. 910 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport

Saturday, Aug. 25

Benefit Tag Sale: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Members of Roger Ludlowe High School’s Class of 1980 sells donated items to help pay for the medical care of Dave Steffens, who suffers from Lou Gehrig’s disease. The sale is at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, 1089 Fairfield Woods Road

Hazardous Waste Disposal Day: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fairfield’s Solid Waste and Recycling Department will collect household hazardous waste, including cleaners, pesticides, old batteries and oils at Veterans Park. There is no charge for disposal, but volunteers ask you fill out a questionnaire beforehand. 909 Reef Road.

Animal Visit: 1 p.m. The Connecticut Audubon Society invites kids to meet with one of critters in its Animal Care program. The activity is free to attend. 2325 Burr St.

Drive-In Movie: 7:30 p.m. Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport is showing “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial” on a big outdoor screen in its parking lot. Parking and watching the movie is free. 651 Pequot Ave.

The Smithereens Concert: 7:30 p.m. Rock band The Smithereens plays at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne. Tickets are $50 at the door or $45 in advance at the theater’s website. 70 Sanford St.

Sunday, Aug. 26

Historic Sites of the War of 1812: 2 p.m. The Fairfield Museum and History Center leads a tour of historic sites from Fairfield’s involvement in the war of 1812. The tour starts at the Powder House, located behind Tomlinson Middle School. 200 Unquowa Road

Tracey DeLucia Concert: 6:30 p.m. Country musician Tracey DeLucia performs on the Sherman Green, at the intersection of Post Road and Reef Road. The show is free as part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series.
