What's Happening in Fairfield This Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The next week promises to be a very musical one for Fairfield, with a host of concerts filling out the calendar. Here’s a collection of some of the events happening in and around Fairfield over the next few days.

Monday, July 9

Movie Monday: 2 p.m. The Fairfield Woods Branch Library invites parents and kids to watch the first of its weekly family movies, “Flipper.” There is no charge for admission. 1147 Fairfield Woods Road.

Animal Tales: 2 p.m. Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo offers a program for kids featuring a story, crafts and a visit with one of the zoo’s animals. The activity is free with zoo admission, which costs $10 for kids and seniors and $12 for adults. The event repeats each day at 2 p.m. through Friday. 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport.

Tuesday, July 10

Shakespeare for Kids: "Romeo and Juliet:" 4:30 p.m. A teacher from Rowayton’s Shakespeare on the Sound will give a special interactive class for kids. The event is free, but call the library at 203-259-0346, Ext. 18, to register in advance. Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave.

Plan and Zoning Commission Meeting: 7:30 p.m. Fairfield’s zoning board holds its regular meeting. The meeting’s agenda is available here . Cafeteria of McKinley School, 70 Thompson St.

Cheap Trick Concert: 8 p.m. Classic rock band Cheap Trick performs. Tickets range from $39 to $115 at the theater box office . Klein Memorial Auditorium, 910 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport.

Wednesday, July 11

Wayne from Maine: 12:30 p.m. The children’s singer-songwriter performs. The concert is free as part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s children’s concert series. Sherman Green Gazebo, at Post Road and Reef Road.

Board of Selectmen Meeting: 4:30 p.m. Fairfield’s executive board holds its bimonthly meeting. The meeting’s agenda is available here . First floor of Sullivan Independence Hall, 725 Old Post Road.

The Coastal Chordsmen Concert: 7 p.m. Trumbull-based barbershop chorus Coastal Chordsmen perform. The concert is free as part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series. Sherman Green Gazebo, at Post Road and Reef Road.

Thursday, July 12

Teddy Bear Sleepover: 5 p.m. Kids are encouraged to drop off their stuffed animals at the Fairfield Public Library for a special sleepover. The animals will stay the night with the librarians, and kids and parents can come pick them up at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning for Teddy Bear Storytime. The activity is free at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road.

Drumming with You: 6:15 p.m. Music teacher Rob Bloom leads an interactive program. Kids and adults alike are invited to bring a picnic dinner and drum along with Bloom’s performance. The event is free to attend. Great Lawn, Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave.

Tony Reno Concert: 7 p.m. WICC radio DJ Tony Reno and his band perform. The concert is free as part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series. Sherman Green Gazebo, at Post Road and Reef Road.

Los Lobos Concert: 7:30 p.m. The Latin rock band performs. Tickets range are $100 at the door or $95 through the theater’s website . Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne, 70 Sanford St.
