What's Happening In Fairfield This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. ? Outdoor events rule Fairfield’s weekend, with concerts, plays and even movies all taking place outside. Here’s a collection of some of the events happening in and around Fairfield the next few days.

Friday, July 13 Family Movie Night: "Happy Feet 2": 6:30 p.m. The Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department’s summer Family Movie Night series at Jennings Beach continues with "Happy Feet 2." The event starts with the “Sand Jam” dance party for kids at 6:30 p.m., followed by the film after dark. There is no charge for admission.

Blackbeard the Pirate: 7 p.m. Campers from the Mizzoula Children’s Theater’s program at Fairfield University finish their session with a performance in the Quick Center for the Arts, 1073 N. Benson Road. Tickets to the show are $15 for adults and $12 for kids and seniors, and are available by calling the box office at (203) 254-4010.

Bridgeport Bluefish vs. Long Island Ducks: 7:05 p.m. The Bluefish take on the Ducks in a three-game series at Harbor Yard Ballpark, 500 Main St., Bridgeport. Tickets range from $8 to $20 at the team’s website. Games also are scheduled at 6:05 p.m. Saturday and 2:05 p.m. Sunday.

Romeo and Juliet: 8 p.m. Connecticut Free Shakespeare performs “Romeo and Juliet” at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport. The show is free, and the zoo will be open at 6:30 p.m. to allow for picnics before the performance. There also will be encore performances at the same times Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, July 14 Summer Reading Olympics Opening Ceremonies: 2 p.m. The Fairfield Public Library kicks off its summer reading competition for kids with a scavenger hunt through the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. Register in advance by calling the Children’s Department at 203-265-3155.

Sunday, July 15

The Glamour Girls Concert : 7 p.m. Dance music band The Glamour Girls performs as part of the Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series. The show is free to attend on Sherman Green, at the intersection of Post Road and Reef Road.

Enter the Haggis Concert: 7:30 p.m. Celtic rock band Enter the Haggis plays at the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne, 70 Sanford St. Tickets are $20 at the door or $18 in advance at the theater’s website.
