William B. Meyer Inc. In Fairfield Holds Holiday 5K Run For Toys

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Runners, walkers and families are invited to register for the family-friendly Meyer Fairfield Holiday 5K Run on Sunday, Dec. 21, to benefit the Fairfield Police Benevolent Association’s Toy Drive.

The flat course, which loops through neighborhoods and wooded trails (weather permitting), is perfect for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Participants in last year’s race ranged from 6 to 88 years old. Preregistration for this popular race ends on Dec. 19.

Partcipants are asked to bring an unwrapped toy appropriate for ages 1 to 16. Toys brought to this year’s race will be donated to Newtown Kindness/Charlotte Bacon Foundation and Bridgeport Hospital.

“We collected over 400 toys at last year’s Meyer Holiday 5K, and hope to collect more this year, said Fairfield Police Sgt. Ed Kovac.

The event will take place at the Scandinavian Club, 1351 South Pine Creek Road in Fairfield. Runners and walkers in holiday costumes are welcome.

The schedule for the day will go as follows:

  • 8 a.m. Registration
  • 9 a.m. Kids Fun Run
  • 9:30 a.m. 5K Starts
  • 10:30 a.m. Awards Ceremony

The cost for kids 18 and under is $5. The costs for adults 19 to 69 is $10. Adults 70 and up are free.

A limited number of commemorative Holiday 5k long-sleeve shirts are available for $12 during preregistration, and while supplies last on race day. Shirts purchased during preregistration will be distributed on the day of the race.

This year’s Holiday 5K kicks off a year-long celebration for title sponsor William B. Meyer, marking the start of its 100th year in business. In celebration of this centennial milestone, the premiere transportation, storage and logistics company has challenged all of their employees to “Run into 100 Years,” and will donate $10 per William B. Meyer employee (and their family members) who registers for the 5K to Operation Hope.

After the race, Meyer will post videos and pictures of the 5k on their Facebook page, and will donate an additional $1 to Operation Hope for every “like” and “share.”
