FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Passersby will think they’ve been magically transported to the bluegrass-covered hills of Kentucky, when the Pequot Library stages its annual Derby Day fundraiser May 6.
Fans of “The Greatest Two Minutes In Sports” will don big hats and festive finery as they stage an old-fashioned tailgate party on the lawn before retiring to the auditorium to watch the running of the 143rd Kentucky Derby.
The 8th annual event, taking place from 4 to 7 p.m., supports the library’s more than 750 annual programs and services for more than 100,000 visitors a year.
The festivities start with the tailgaters parking their cars in a horseshoe on the lawn. While guests can bring their own tailgate fare, ticket holders can also enjoy provided Southern cuisine and an open bar — with mint juleps, of course.
Tickets are $60 each, with a special $300 tailgating ticket package. Act now, as ticket prices increase after April 28.
