A handful of dogs were on hand Wednesday, but they weren't very interested in competing or performing for their owners. The plan had been to dress them in costumes and have them compete for the title of Best in Show in honor of national "Dress Your Pet Day."
So the group from the Watermark sat and watched fun facts and stories about dogs on a large screen, and learned quite a bit about their canine visitors.
"We intended to have them compete, but the dogs got so excited," said Tracy Ann Samuel, community life director. "So we just let them play together ... no tricks. We'll do it again next year. Our community loves dogs, animals, so we wanted to bring all the dogs together for the dog lovers, and those who can't have animals. We share stories and resources."
"It was great to see the dogs together, and learn some facts about dogs," said Ann Sertl, of Fairfield. "It was our first attempt at a show here. We'll have more."
Kelley Green, of Stratford, agreed. "I thought it was wonderful. It will be bigger and better next year, maybe with an obstacle course. But this is wonderful."
