FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield Police Athletic League is sponsoring its annual Sand Sculpture Contest.
The PAL event is open to amateurs who want to try their hand at creating artwork at the beach. The contest will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the sandbar at Penfield Beach; the rain date is Aug. 14. There is no charge for the event, but registration is required. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m.; forms will be available at the event. There is no pre-registration.
Look for the PAL sign at Penfield Beach on the day of the event. Interested participants may register as teams or individuals. Individual entrants must be 18 years old or younger and teams must include at least one member 18 or younger. Families are encouraged to enter as a team and work together on a creation. Only objects found in nature may be included in the sculpture. Participants should bring any tools they’ll need.
Prizes will be awarded for best castle, most original sculpture, most realistic sculpture and most artistic creation. For more information about this and other PAL programs and events, visit the PAL website.
