The Daily Voice spoke with Mark Abrahamson, owner of Mo’s Wine and Spirits on Post Road in Fairfield, to help with your hectic shopping list for holiday spirits. Here are Abrahamson’s picks:

  • If you’re looking for something tasty to toast the New Year but don’t want to break the bank, Abrahamson suggests Gran Duca Prosecco. The Italian sparkling wine is crisp in its mineral-infused apples, pears and flowers and isn’t excessively sweet or heavy. This Mo’s Staff Favorite is also reasonable priced at just $12.99 per bottle.
  • One ring up on the price ladder is the Mumm Napa Brut Prestige. “It’s your typical California sparkling wine,” Abrahamson said. He describes the Brut Prestige as full-bodied and fruitier than most other sparkling wines. Mo’s is selling this Napa Valley bottle-of-bubbly for $19.99 per bottle.
  • When quantity is less important than quality, holiday sippers might want to try the Champagne Duc De Romet, coming in at $29.99 per bottle. Wine Spectator - a wine review site - described this champagne as “well-cut and aromatic, showing ripe apple, passion fruit, hazelnut and pastry flavors, with yeast, honey and ground ginger hints.” Abrahamson said it is one of Mo’s best sellers, especially for this time of the year.
  • For those who have had a particularly good year and are looking to celebrate in style, Abrahamson suggests the 2006 Special Club Vintage by Pierre Gimonnet. It is one of his personal favorites, with floral aromas and hints of strawberries, apples with a rich finish. This yearly release is priced at $89.99 per bottle.

Mo’s was quiet during the early afternoon hours Tuesday, in anticipation of the “mad rush” Abrahamson expected by early evening.

“It’ll start to pick up around 3 p.m.,” he said. “I’d suggest getting here before" New Year's Eve.
