Get Rid Of 'Stuck Stress,' With MELT Method, Says Fairfield Instructor

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- MELT may sound like something you've been waiting for all winter, but it's actually a simple self-treatment technique that helps people get out of chronic pain and stay that way.

Bridgeport resident Amanda Cizek likes to say MELT is an "in addition to" technique as opposed to and "instead of" exercise.

"MELT is not an exercise, but rather a method designed to keep a body fluid, healthy and pain-free so that one can enjoy whatever exercise or program they participate in without pain and reducing the risk of injury," she said.

MELT directly addresses "stuck stress," a MELT term for connective tissue that becomes dehydrated. Connective tissue is what surrounds every structure in the body.

"By learning how to MELT, you can learn to actively partake in decreasing stuck stress daily so it doesn't accumulate and cause symptoms that sap your vitality and energy," she said.

The method uses small balls for the hands and feet and a soft roller for the body to simulate the effects of manual therapy and stimulating one's connective tissue. These simple motions relieve achy muscles, bring space back into joints, improve organ function and decrease the stress reflex. "Ten minutes of MELT before and/or after your workout is all you need," she said.

Cizek has been teaching the method since 2007 when she shifted her personal training business from training to healing. Her clients include a range of folks, from athletes to disabled and elderly to those with auto-immune diseases, fibromyalgia, and cancer.

You can find her at Fairfield Pilates on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at Black Rock Pilates in Bridgeport starting March 18.

Classes at Fairfield Pilates are $25 or a package of 10 for $200. The Intro event at Black Rock Pilates on March 18 is $25.
