There is no shortage of Independence Day celebrations featuring fireworks in Fairfield County.
At least 15 major fireworks displays are planned over the course of seven days, starting this weekend.
Here are the highlights:
Thursday, June 28:
Trumbull Day kicked off with carnival rides, amusement games and food trucks at the fields behind Trumbull High School and Hillcrest Middle School at 72 Strobel Road. Saturday there is no carnival but the main event will be the Barnum Festival. The final day, Sunday, July 1, concludes with a fantastic fireworks display.
Saturday, June 30
Fireworks shot off over Candlewood Lake (36 Hayestown Road, Brookfield). View the fireworks on land from Danbury Town Park or by boat, with certain restrictions. There will be free shuttle bus service to and from the fireworks show between 6 and 11 p.m., sponsored by Carvel, from the North Street Shopping Center, 1 Padanaram Road in Danbury. Fireworks begin at sundown.
The Redding Historical Society's Rock'n Roots Revival features a day full of live music starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Fireworks begin about 9:45 p.m. The event is at the Lonetown Farm & Museum, 43 Lonetown Road (Route 107). Admission for non-Redding residents is $20, $10 for seniors and students. Kids under 12 are free. Rain date is July 1.
Sunday, July 1
The Barnumpalooza fireworks will begin about 9:15 p.m. Sunday July 1 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport . Admission is free. There will be food trucks, live music and carnival rides throughout the day.
Monday, July 2
Westport's annual fireworks display, a spectacular event sponsored by the Westport Police Athletic League, will take place Monday, July 2, at Compo Beach. Fireworks begin after dark. Parking tickets are required for entry. Rain date is Tuesday, July 3
Fairfield also will celebrate its annual Independence Day Fireworks show on Monday, July 2. The rain date is July 3. Grucci Fireworks explode just after dark, usually around 9:15 p.m., from a barge off of Long Island Sound so the show can be seen easily from either Penfield or Jennings Beaches.
Tuesday, July 3
The annual Norwalk fireworks will take place Tuesday, July 3 at sundown. The rain date is Thursday, July 5. A kids show called "The Amazing Andy Show" begins at 5:30 p.m., and "Dance to the Music with DJ Nuzzo" starts at 6 p.m.
Stratford's annual fireworks show is on Tuesday, July 3 with a rain date of July 6. Entertainment will begin at Short Beach Park at 7 p.m. Fireworks are launched after sunset.
Wednesday, July 4
Gates open at 6 p.m. for the 4th of July fireworks celebration at Ridgefield High School, 700 North Salem Road. Rain date is July 5. No admission without a $20 parking pass which can be purchased with cash or check at Fairfield County Bank, Ridgefield Town Hall or Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce. Parking is available at Ridgefield High School, Barlow Mountain, and Scotland Elementary. Shuttle buses will be provided to and from Barlow Mountain, and Scotland Elementary. Disabled parking is available at Ridgefield High School. Fireworks start at dark.
Weston Parks and Recreation and Fairfield Bank presents "Weston's Family 4th Celebration 2018" at Weston Middle School field. No entry from Lords Highway after 7 p.m. School Road and Route 57 only. Arrive before 8 p.m. to avoid the fireworks traffic rush. Ticket gates open at 4:30 p.m. on School Road. Cost is $20 per car for parking and admission. Admission is $5 to walk in. No charge for children 5 and under. There is a Community Band Performance from 6 to 7 p.m. From 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., the Magic Genie performs. Rock entertainment from 7:15 p.m. until the 9:20 p.m. fireworks display.
The 38th Annual New Canaan Family Fourth Spectacular Fireworks is at Waveny Park. The park opens at 5 p.m. Rain date is July 5.
The Wilton 4th of July celebration takes place on Wednesday July 4 at the Wilton High School athletic complex. Rain date is July 5. Music begins at 5 p.m. Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. A $20 general admission parking donation is requested. General admission will be at Comstock, Middlebrook, the High School North lot, and Allen's Meadow.
Friday, July 6
The fireworks display from SummerStage at Danbury Fair Mall, at 7 Backus Ave., is planned for Friday, July 6 with a rain date of Monday, July 9. A pre-party starts at 6 p.m. in the mall overflow lot with live music from local bands. Fireworks begin at dark.
Saturday, July 7
The Town of Darien fireworks display returns Saturday, July 7 with a rain date of Sunday, July 8 at Darien High School. Parking passes will be on sale at Town Hall through July 6. Pedestrians are free.
Greenwich fireworks display begins at dusk on Saturday, July 7 at Greenwich Point and Binney Park Rain date is Sunday, July 8.
