FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The vice chairman of the Fairfield Board of Education has resigned his post after being appointed as the the town's new Director of Parks and Recreation.
Anthony Calabrese had been serving as interim director of Parks and Recreation for the town, and on Monday he was appointed to the position permanently, prompting his resignation from the BOE.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to have served this wonderful community," Calabrese wrote in a post on Facebook.
"I will miss the countless hours of preparing for meetings and then actually sitting through them. I will miss the many staff, teachers, and administrators that make this district so special. I am extremely lucky to have the opportunity to live and work in the Town I love so much. I wish you all the best of luck in the future and THANK YOU all for the unwavering support you have shown to me over the years."
According to the Fairfield Citizen , appointed town officers are not allowed to hold elected office. The Board of Selectman will appoint a new Republican to replace Calabrese, and will likely choose whoever the Republican Town Committee selects, the Fairfield Citizen reported. That person's term would end in 2019.
