Conceived by artist Liz Squillance, the stairway unveiling marks the opening of a new exhibition at nearby City Lights Gallery.

The steps are located between Elm and Golden Hill streets.

“The theme of the mural is a celebration of the people of Bridgeport, our diversity, and how through collaborating and working together we can achieve unity and prosperity,” Squillace said.

After the unveiling, guests can head up the steps to “Visual Designs: Pattern,” the new exhibition at City Lights Gallery, 265 Golden Hill Street.

It’s the first in a series of exhibitions exploring the principles and elements of design through a variety of media from fiber art to painting to weaving.

The gallery will be open from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 7
