FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- With winter officially closing in on the 21st, it's time to put down your iced coffee and start looking for something hot to warm your bones.

Luckily, Fairfield is full of options for ducking in from the cold. Here's a sampling:

  • Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts are a dime a dozen. For something truly unique, stop by Isabelle et Vincent. This authentic French bakery has 4.5 out of 5 star ratings on both yelp and tripadvisor, as well as a perfect score from urbanspoon. The aroma alone could win you over with its made-from-scratch loaves of bread, quiches, macaroons, tarts, cookies and homemade chocolates. Pair a pastry with your choice of café au lait, hot coffee, espresso, cappuccino or latte and you'll soon forget all about that frigid weather. Sip and Savor: 1903 Post Road, 203-292-8022, www.isabelleetvincent.com/.
  • If you’re looking for something equal in quality but more central to Fairfield’s downtown, stop by Las Vetas Lounge, a kitschy cafe located next to the Community Theatre. It's laid back here; very "West Coast," with a wide variety of hot specialty drinks, including anything and everything caffeinated. Breakfast sandwiches won’t run you over $4, and on Saturdays the staff does specialty breakfast with winter specials like eggnog pancakes. There's also tons of candy so when you do go back outside, you have some fortification. Sip and Savor: 27 Unquowa Road, 203-255-1958.
  • For something a little more adult, try the hot apple cider with Fireball cinnamon whisky at The Chelsea. This gastropub is a notorious brunch spot but may soon be known for its Happy Hour, which starts next week, along with a new winter menu. Sip and Savor: 12 Unquowa Place, 203-254-8200, www.thechelseaff.com/.
