Burroughs Becomes Christmas Tree Honoree

Christmas is on the radar but, don't worry -- there's no need to start shopping! Instead, the good news is this year's much-anticipated 2010 Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival has picked The Burroughs Community Center of Bridgeport as its beneficiary. Mark your calendar because this visually stunning event takes place the first weekend in December and co-chairs Debbie Stapleton and Karen Maloney report its theme is “Celebrating Community.” Which is The Burroughs Community Center's focus too. It promotes individual growth and community cohesiveness through a variety of youth and adult programs, that include direct services and collaborations with community and facility partners.

The Center's Executive Director, Kevin Simmons, called his organziation "thrilled and honored" to be the 2010 Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival's chosen charity.  He also highlighted the Center's on-going work. “In addition to creating the first community center in the West End of Bridgeport, we have worked hard on behalf of this region for the past thirteen years by providing programs such as computer instruction, tutoring, summer field trips, golf, income tax assistance and a community garden. We are proud to provide the educational, recreational, social and economic tools to our constituents to lead successful lives. We feel privileged to work with the Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival and look forward to this special event.”
