The crew helped to clean up the property at Girl Scout's Camp Candlewood in New Fairfield.
The team tackled such tough tasks as sealing cracks, repairing asphalt and making improvements to the camp roadway.
PKF staff members traveled to the lakefront vamp from Norwich, Stamford, Fairfield, Rocky Hill, Wethersfield and Bridgeport.
Bryan Decker, a senior manager at PKF O'Connor Davies in Stamford, worked to patch potholes on the road that runs through the camp.
"I had never done that type of work before. By working together, the PKF O’Connor Davies team members were able to fill several large holes by the end of the day," he said.
"It was very physical labor lifting the 60 pound bags of asphalt and packing it down using the stampers. We all took turns with the various tasks. That much physical labor is something as accountants we don’t do every day. I am sure I will be sore for a few days."
The work will help the camp prepare to host troops of Girl Scouts in the fall and winter.
"It felt good to help the Girl Scouts protect the road for the winter months, so they can have access to the site if needed and protect the woods surrounding the road from further erosion," Decker said.
Roy Newman, the on-site camp ranger at Camp Candlewood, said, "We are very thankful so many people came out to help."
Julia Eisenhaur of Wethersfield, manager at PKF O'Connor Davies who organized the teams, said, "We have over 1,500 nonprofit clients, and we like to give back to the community whenever we can."
"It was a fun and productive day for everyone," Eisenhaur added.
Camp Candlewood, which encompasses 87 acres, was founded in the early 1960s. Although there is no summer camp at Camp Candlewood this year, "We have continued to use the camp year-round to host all different kinds of Girl Scout programs as well as family and troop camping activities.
"Our year-round facilities include a dining hall and a troop house where scouts can have overnights, events and meetings," Newman said. "Since Camp Candlewood is located on Candlewood Lake, we also offer boating, swimming and canoeing."
